Well folks, we’re at a turning point here. Over the last year or so CelticAnarchy.org has built up a little bit of steam, but for the most part failed to reach it’s main objective, which was bringing together a community of people interested in a discussion of anarchism, identity, and culture and facilitating that discussion. Going forward we’ve got a couple options:
1 - Scrap the site entirely. I know that’d make the so-called “national anarchist” creeps who’ve been writing nasty things about us ever since the post ‘on anarchism and nationalism’ went live happy, and that’s enough to make me think we shouldn’t do it. still, there’s not much point continuing to pay to host a blog that no one writes for regularly and we’ve had trouble attracting writers since most of the people who we’d hoped to attract are already busy with their own projects.
2 - Re-work the site concept entirely. We could just re-design the site’s back end so that it becomes a sort of dynamic news feed for anarchist and autonomist groups from throughout the celtic world. That’d eliminate the need to get people to write stuff explicitly for the site since it’d just be syndicating press releases and news articles that are already being produced and bring them together in one place. We could leave the forums up so folks could discuss the articles and even leave open the possibility for people who feel inspired to write stuff explicitly for the site, but we wouldn’t have to rely on that to supply content.
3 - Something else entirely. What? I don’t know. Leave a suggestion in the comments if you’ve got an idea.
One of the big topics nearly everywhere I turn these days is Immigration – in the US news it’s Latino immigrants from Mexico and South America, in UK news it’s Islamic immigrants from a range of countries, and in Irish news it’s Polish immigrants; but in all three the complaints are the same: there are a lot of them, they’re hard to understand, they’re different, and they’re taking our jobs! Similar debates rage throughout the rest of the world as well. Everywhere one looks one sees populations in flux, Diasporas in the making. Read more
There’s been a lot of fuss in the last few years about attempt to merge nationalism and Anarchism, specifically third-positionist / post-fascist nationalism and anarchism. Groups that advocate such a move are a fringe of a fringe of a fringe, to say the least, but they’ve got their own wikipedia entries nowadays and at least a few websites. Calling themselves “National Anarchists” they advocate what is essentially an anarchist political system (radically decentralized and local with no central state) but generally hold onto private ownership of land and advocate monoculture communities based on “voluntary” racial and ethnic segregation in the name of “biodiversity;” one of the scariest examples I can think of of evil bastards appropriating rhetoric and using it to mean something totally opposite of what it actually means. Scary shit. I’m not going to link to any of their websites because, frankly, I don’t want to send them any traffic. But if you’re really interested just google ‘national anarchism’ and prepare to be horrified. Read more
From the Celtic League Newswire
Opposition by countries such as Spain to the independence of Kosovo is motivated more by domestic concerns about calls for self determination within their own borders than concepts of International diplomacy or law.
Celtic League General Secretary, Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, analyses the disingenuous nature of the opposition of Spain and others to the freedom of Europe’s youngest nation (see below): Read more
In 1649 a great Englishman named Gerrard Winstanley wrote a text that inflamed the country and mobilised a movement of stoic and hardworking socialist men and women to St. George’s Hill in Surrey, where they would clash with the forces of Church, State and ruling class.(Ironically, St. George’s Hill is now a 964 acre private estate where the idle rich amuse themselves at golf and tennis. It’s not all bad, though, Ringo Starr, Kate Winslet and Chelsea player Didier Drogba have also lived there!) Read more
In the face of modern globalised capital, the working people of the world stand stunned. Everything that was once held near and dear, from internationalism to human rights, has been mockingly thrown back in our faces. Pundits and think-tanks chide anti-capitalists and union militants as “nationalistic” and “protectionist.” The same people who demanded the Western governments respect “human rights” in the ’60s and the ’70s and the ’80s can now only stare with mouths slack as NATO makes a “humanitarian intervention” in Yugoslavia or the U.S. government runs to “free” the Middle East. What has gone wrong? Read more
I first saw this on myspace but wanted to double-check it before posting it here - and I found confirmation here.
The Lakota Nation has officially withdrawn from treaties that allowed the United States to annex their land and have declared themselves an independent nation. They are currently seeking international recognition and waiting for an official acknowledgement from the United States federal government.
And, the very best part, they’re completely within their legal rights to do so. The failure on the part of the US to recognize their independence would constitute a severe breach of international law. Read more
